Idea progettuale : The main goal of this research is to study sustainable passive strategies for low energy buildings in Mediterranean area.

Currently, in the Apulian region tons of paper are recycled (Comieco, 2018); furthermore, agricultural waste ranks first in the regional waste ranking.

In order to satisfy the nZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings) parameters, the present proposal of research will be developed by the experimental study of high performances materials (panels, mortars, plasters, bricks) zero-kilometers, realized with new raw materials.

  • The development of new local enterprises or the implementation of existing realities will be caused. The research will start with a local mapping of the current paper and agro-waste recycling processes;
  • then a LCA (Life Cycle Assesment) analysis of the ended products will be performed. The following research steps will be developed at the Building Physics laboratories of DICAR (Politecnico di Bari) : mix design study, mechanical, physical, hygrothermal and acoustical tests.

    The final phase of the project will be the validation of the experimented materials by measurements in-field of the innovative solutions realized in the laboratories.

    Dettagli dell’impegno di ricerca :

    The main goals of the current research project are the following ones : 1)Development of sustainable building materials starting from raw recycling materials considering also local agro-waste by the study of different mix design.

    Palumbo et al. (2016) determined the hygrothermal properties of building materials realized with agro-waste comparing them with traditional ones.

    Liuzzi et al. (2018) carried out a study on the hygrothermal properties of clay plasters with pruning olive waste comparing different solutions.

    2) Development of building materials according to the main european sustainable building standards, nZEB ( Nearly Zero Energy Building).

    Taking into account the goals of the European programs in terms of energy saving buildings, the potentiality of the sustainable materials to be used as passive techniques in the Mediterranean area will be demonstrated by hygrothermal simulation software.

    Barreca and Fichera (2016) found that the addition of vegetable residues to the mix enhance the thermal insulation of the cement plaster.

    Pectu et al. (2017) highlighted that the use of the building materials with raw materials from residues allows to be compliant with nZEB standards.

    Dettagli dell’impegno didattico : Assignment of 6 Credits (Italian University student evaluation system, hereinafter referred to as CFU) in courses, belonging to the competitive sector, according to the needs of the educational offerings.

    Attività di didattica e di didattica integrativa : The educational activities will be carried out on the subjects and the courses related to the SSD ING-IND / 11 or affine, including the assignment of instructional modules.
