Job Description :
The successful candidate will be involved in the biochemical and structural steps of the work. In particular he / she will be involved in protein expression and purification, crystallization, structure determination, biochemical and biophysical characterization of RecQ helicases and related proteins.
The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with the other members of the Structural Biology Laboratory and with the beamline scientists of Elettra.
Finally, he / she will have to participate and present his / her results to international conferences, meetings or workshops as well as prepare and submit articles to scientific peer reviewed journals.
PhD in biochemistry, structural biology or a closely related subject is required. Hands-on experience in protein expression and purification, crystallization, small-
angle X-ray scattering, single crystal X-ray data collection, structure solution and refinement is essential. Experience in biochemical assays such as nucleic acid binding and helicase activity, and / or a knowledge of the literature in the field of DNA replication and repair would be a plus.
Good time management skills and ability to prioritize are expected, together with the ability to interact with staff and facility users at all levels and to work as part of a multi-
disciplinary team. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, while a working knowledge of the Italian language would be desirable but is not required.
The deadline for the submission of application is May 11th, 2018. The appointment envisioned is a fixed term contract of 12 months duration.
The salary will be commensurate with previous experience and qualifications of the candidate.
