The Category Manager has responsibility for executing the development and implementation of sourcing strategies which will provide superior products, optimize the supplier base, provide improved customer service level and minimize risk at the best cost possible, measured in COST + DELIVERY + QUALITY + SPEED + CASH.

This position also has responsibility for providing analysis to design and implement ideal supply network design to drive cost reductions, inventory improvements, lead time reduction, transaction elimination, for a Category of spend, while monitoring and making recommendation for new sources and innovation.

  • Spend Management
  • a. Develop the annual category strategic plan including priorities and projects to achieve the net cost savings target, savings funnel, supplier consolidation, supplier quality / delivery improvement, and the plan how to achieve cash flow targets for the category of spend.

    b. Execute the supply chain strategies in pursuit of the continuity of supply for the category of spend, as per the direction of the Global Category Leader.

    c. Broaden and deepen the relationships with MAINTAIN and GROW suppliers for the Category of Spend, while driving efficiencies and cost reductions.

    Supports Supplier Performance Engineering, partnering, contract negotiations and contract compliance, in collaboration with Lean Manufacturing, Quality Manager and Production and Inventory Controls Managers.

    d. Deploy contracts, terms & conditions, preferred payment terms and Incoterms, supplier relations and transaction plans in compliance with business objectives and strategies set by the Business Unit.

    e. Manage and mitigate supplier price increase request (SPIR) as per the DOA of the Business Unit.

    f. Perform make vs. buy analysis and utilize approved Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models in achievement of strategic cost objectives.

    g. Partner with GROW suppliers into NPD initiatives, plan for growth and capacity requirements, leverage on supplier capabilities for time-

    to-market, cost and launch readiness.

    h. Understand the cost drivers for the category of spend. Provide updated market intelligence by conducting category specific competitor and industry analysis to identify new sources, new materials and new manufacturing techniques or technologies to improve the company’s competitive position.

    i. Influence GROW supplier to invest on people +process +systems +lean +equipment +technology.

  • Supplier Performance
  • a. Actively Participate in the monthly Buyer Report out meeting to support P&IC managers, buyer / planners and quality managers through fast resolution of escalated / repetitive supplier delivery and quality issues, including roots causes countermeasures (RCCM), and long term effective corrective actions.

    b. Partner with Manager SPE (Supply Perf’ Engineering) to optimize the supply network and resolve supplier performance issues by systematically applying the SPE Framework and Toolkits.

    c. Assures regulatory compliance within the supply base such as Conflict Minerals, Reach, etc


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Logistics, Technical or Business;.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas : Operations management, Materials management, Sourcing and / or Engineering.
  • Experience within manufacturing preferred, including exposure to engineering, sales / marketing and warehousing / distribution.

  • Strong negotiation and project management skills
  • Capability in planning and analytics, structured problem solving, facilitating and presentation skills.
  • Persuasive communication, influencing & negotiation skills (internally and externally).
  • Knowledge of end-to-end supply chain management, global / best cost country (BCC) sourcing and logistics optimization initiatives.
  • Experience with core software applications (ERP), preferably with SAP or Oracle in planning and / or sales and distribution.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • APICS, CIPS or similar Certification preferred
